Wrede Group continues its successful growth in 2017

(Arnsberg) Wrede Industrieholding pools the industrial business activities of Wrede family and consists of two independent business divisions: “Decorative Surfaces” and “Household Products”. During financial year 2017 Wrede Group grew for the eighth consecutive year and realized a total turnover of 434 Mio € (+8% vs. last year).

Basis for this purly organic growth is the sustainable investment policy of recent years with consistent expansion of production capacities and innovative development of the product portfolio.

The group’s twelve production facilities in Europe, Asia, North and South America employed 2.015 people at year end (+5% vs. last year), thereof 586 in Germany (577 last year). Staff growth mainly came from the plants in Malaysia, Russia and Brazil.

The group’s investment volume reached 29 Mio € in 2017 (28 Mio € last year). Emphasis was on the capacity expansion at the Arnsberg plant as well as at both Russian subsidiaries, building an engraving department and Design Center (Egorievsk) and adding a new treating channel while amplifying the logistics area (Samara).

From the divisions

The “Decorative Surfaces” division consists of INTERPRINT Group as globally operating décor printer providing specialty papers to the furniture and flooring industries. In 2017 turnover increased by 12% to 353 Mio €. At the same time sales volume increased by 10% to 1.1 billion square meters, equaling twice the surface of Lake Constance.

The substantial growth came mainly from the finishfoils produced in Poland and marketed globally under the “Xelio” brand name as well as the significant expansion of treating volumes at the Russian and Brazilian plants.

In addition, production capacity at the group’s main plant in Arnsberg was extended by commissioning a new rotogravure printing press. Apart from that, there is currently an extension building being constructed that will house all service functions.

The “Household Products” division with keeeper Group is one of the leading European manufacturers of household articles made from plastic. During the first full financial year under the new “keeeper” brand and after some adjustments in the product portfolio the turnover reached 66 Mio € (-7% vs. last year).

Special focus of 2017 was the development of a new, comprehensive kitchen range that was presented at the beginning of 2018 during the world leading Ambiente trade fair in Frankfurt under the name “keeeper kitchen kollektion” and was well received by customers. All products of this range reflect the high standards of the keeeper brand regarding quality, functionality as well as innovation.

At the Polish plant in Bydgoszcz two major strategic projects were successfully completed: In spring after thorough preparation the roll-out and go-live of the ERP software (SAP) was managed without any significant interference with operating business. In addition, the construction of an additional building has created the conditions for the further optimization of production, assembly and logistics processes.

Despite rising raw materials prices Wrede Group expects profitable growth in both business divisions for financial year 2018. This growth will be based on the foundation of our worldwide production network, the profound understanding of our customers’ needs as well as the group’s technological competence leadership.

During the year the group plans to increase its investment volume to almost 36 Mio €. Largest individual projects at INTERPRINT are additional printing presses in the USA, Russia and China as well as the completion of the extension building in Arnsberg. At keeeper the emphasis is on new injection moulding machines and tools for both production plants.

On the level of Wrede Industrieholding the next change in the Management Board has been completed. Mr Helmut Schmidt, since 1989 managing director and since 2015 Spokesman of the Wrede Industrieholding, has retired and has been bid farewell at the end of January 2018. As his successor, Mr. Michael Sindram (40) was appointed to the Management Board.

Wrede Industrieholding as successful family enterprise with more than 135 years of tradition continues to be organizationally as well as economically well-positioned. In financial year 2018 it will again support both business divisions in the implementation of their respective long-term growth strategies.
